No H8 Here.

Today, I am making my tentative return to the blogosphere to bring you all some amazing, heartwarming news.

We all know that our nation has some hate going on. Some deep, dark prejudice and nastiness that led us all to wear purple on October 20th in support of some of the most genuine, amazing people on this planet. The last few months have been full of terrible news concerning the deaths of many gay individuals, and those are only the ones that make it to the media. There is a legitimate problem here, and as the friend of many gay people, it breaks my heart to see the close-minded bullying of complete idiots force innocent people to feel like they have nowhere to turn.

Aliso Niguel High School, however, is not like that.

Yes, we have conservative people. This is Southern Orange County, obviously Aliso has its fair share of hardcore religious groups that believe homosexuality is a sin.

But we have a lesbian homecoming queen.

My friend Alyssa was crowned Homecoming Queen at last night's game, and I could not be more proud of not only her, but the school that elected her.

Not every school can say that an openly gay girl wearing a tuxedo stood proudly next to her father and the rest of the Homecoming Court as she was crowned Queen. Not every school can say that there were cheers as she held a bouquet and waved to the stands, her girlfriend in the crowd.

I know it's blurry, but Suzie was crying when she took it.
Alyssa, we love you.

Alyssa's not just Homecoming Queen because she likes girls and we want to feel like good people. Alyssa's Homecoming Queen because she is hilarious, and nice, and has so much school spirit it's crazy(every. single. dress up. day.), and she has a warm heart, and she is loyal to her friends and she is a Queen in every single definition of the word. She has all the support I could possibly drum up, and even the mormon boy I was talking to yesterday agreed that "Alyssa's really cool".

I'm not trying to make a political statement with this post, I'm just proud of my friend. If you don't agree or whatever, I don't want to see your hate in the comments.

love,
me.
